Dr. Diego Ortega Del Vecchyo
Computational Population Genetics
Diego Ortega Del Vecchyo is an associate professor in the International Laboratory for Human Genome Research (LIIGH) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He leads the Computational Population Genetics Group (CpG) which works on developing new computational methods to infer how past evolutionary processes impact patterns of genetic and phenotypic variation.
Diego received a BSc in Genomic Sciences from UNAM where he spend three years working in Daniel Piñero´s lab. He got a Ph.D in Bioinformatics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under the mentorship of John Novembre and Kirk Lohmueller. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley where he worked with Montgomery Slatkin.
