Dra. Lucía Morales
Genome Evolution
Dr. Lucía Morales leads the Genome Evolution group at the International Laboratory for Human Genome Research (LIIGH). She earned her Ph.D. from the Pasteur-Paris University International Program, working with genome evolution and hybridization in yeast.
Currently, her research team exploits the vast genomic diversity of yeasts to understand eukaryotic genome evolution. Her work combines genetics, genomics, experimental evolution, and population genetics to understand how hybridization and adaptation to challenging environments drive evolution in natural and domesticated fungal populations. She co-founded the YeastGenomesMX Consortium to explore Mexico´s yeast diversity, particularly in agave fermentation systems, uncovering remarkable diversity and widespread introgression in a natural laboratory system. Dr. Morales pursues rigorous research with a commitment to ethics, team well-being, and fostering an enthusiastic and inclusive scientific culture.
