Fer completed her bachelor’s thesis at the CGBioLab (LIIGH-UNAM), where she investigated lung adenocarcinoma in mice exposed to e-cigarette smoke. Using whole-exome sequencing, she analyzed FFPE tumor samples to understand how e-cigarette exposure contributes to tumorigenesis. In her senior year, she also explored how the expression of embryonic and mechanotransduction-related genes in acral melanoma patients may drive the initiation and progression of this rare type of skin cancer, integrating transcriptomic analyses with cell culture experiments. Her research broadly focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms that underlie tumor initiation and progression.
