Paleoproteomics Workshop
Pre-symposium event of APG2025
Overview
This two-day workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to Paleoproteomics. Through a series of lectures, hands-on activities, and group discussions, attendees will acquire the skills necessary to engage with this expanding area of research.
The program is designed to offer basic concepts in experimental and analytical aspects of Paleoproteomics, allowing participants to explore its potential in their academic or professional endeavors.
Objectives:
Participants will:
1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of Paleoproteomics as a research field and its applications.Participants will:
2. Learn how to perform a standard protein extraction protocol for archeological samples.
3. Acquire essential skills for analyzing ancient peptide data using open-source software like MaxQuant.
Format
The workshop consists of three modules:
● Lectures: These sessions will provide a solid background on Paleoproteomics and prepare participants for the wet-lab sessions.
● Hands-On Activities: Two experimental modules where participants will gain practical experience by performing a protein extraction protocol used for ancient samples.
● Paleoproteomics Seminars: Early career researchers will present engaging talks and lead discussions on applying paleoproteomics to identify ancient human pathogens, forensics, and human evolution, highlighting the challenges faced.
Target Audience
This workshop is designed for students, early career researchers, and professionals eager to explore the field of paleoproteomics. Participants should have a basic molecular biology wet-lab training level to engage fully with the hands-on sessions.
Takeaways
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
● Gain a solid understanding of the applications and limitations of paleoproteomics.
● Acquire hands-on experience in performing a protein extraction protocol.
● Build an international network of peers and mentors in the field of paleoproteomics
Duration
2 Days (18 h. Including breaks)
