His laboratory has identified many proteins involved in these tasks, as well as their roles in human disease. Under his leadership, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has been recognized as one of the best molecular biology institutions in the world, and he has been the recipient of the prestigious Louisa Gross Horwitz and Alfred P. Sloan Jr. prizes, among others. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Australian Academy of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of The Royal Society.
