Dr. Gonzaga-Jauregui is the Principal Investigator of the Mendelian Genomics & Precision Health Laboratory <\/strong>and Assistant Professor at the International Laboratory for Human Genome Research (LIIGH) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Her research focuses on family-based analyses of rare and common genetic disorders to identify pathogenic variation and novel genes associated with disease to better understand the molecular architectures and pathophysiology of genetic disorders. La Dra. Claudia Gonzaga J\u00e1uregui es la investigadora titular del Laboratorio de Gen\u00f3mica Mendeliana y Salud de Precisi\u00f3n\u00a0<\/strong>del Laboratorio Internacional de Investigaci\u00f3n sobre el Genoma Humano (LIIGH) en el Campus Juriquilla de la UNAM. La Dra. Gonzaga J\u00e1uregui ha sido pionera en la implementaci\u00f3n y an\u00e1lisis de abordajes gen\u00f3micos para el estudio de enfermedades gen\u00e9ticas, mediante los cuales ha identificado y publicado m\u00e1s de 25 genes asociados a enfermedades raras no identificadas previamente. Tania Sep\u00falveda Morales, BSc.<\/strong> (Research Assistant, B.Sc. Genomic Sciences, LCGEJ, UNAM)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tania was born and grew up in Morelia, Michoac\u00e1n. She finished her studies in the Undergraduate Program on Genomic Sciences at ENES Juriquilla, UNAM. She currently works on projects related to improving access to early diagnosis for patients living with rare diseases in Mexico and Latin America. Some of her interests in human genomics are the understanding of diseases, the application of iPS cells and precision medicine. Outside the lab, her hobbies and interests span the arts such as cinema, music and the development of graphic design, and sports like volleyball and weight training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tania naci\u00f3 y creci\u00f3 en Morelia, Michoac\u00e1n. Tania termin\u00f3 sus estudios dentro de la Licenciatura en Ciencias Gen\u00f3micas (LCG) en la ENES Juriquilla de la UNAM y obtuvo su t\u00edtulo como LCG. Actualmente trabaja en el laboratorio en proyectos relaciones a facilitar el acceso a diagn\u00f3stico gen\u00e9tico para pacientes que viven con enfermedades raras en M\u00e9xico y Latinoam\u00e9rica. Algunos de sus mayores intereses en la gen\u00f3mica humana es el entendimiento de enfermedades, la aplicaci\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas iPS y la medicina de precisi\u00f3n. Fuera del laboratorio tiene intereses en las artes como el cine, m\u00fasica y la creaci\u00f3n de dise\u00f1o gr\u00e1fico, y en deportes como el voleibol y entrenamiento con pesas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Luis T\u00e9llez Arreola<\/strong>, PhD<\/strong> (Postdoctoral researcher. Investigador Postdoctoral)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Luis obtained his DVM from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicol\u00e1s de Hidalgo (UMSNH). He obtained his M.Sc. in Neurobiology and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Institute of Neurobiology at UNAM. He has two post-doctorates abroad at the University of Utah and Northwestern University in Chicago. Jos\u00e9 Luis is a pioneer in Mexico studying the nervous system utilizing the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans<\/em> as a model organism. Outside the lab, he enjoys being with his family and doing outdoor activities such as camping and mountain biking. He is also a coffee lover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Luis es veterinario por la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicol\u00e1s de Hidalgo (UMSNH). Obtuvo su maestr\u00eda en neurobiolog\u00eda y su doctorado en ciencias biom\u00e9dicas en el Instituto de Neurobiolog\u00eda de la UNAM. Tiene dos posdoctorados en el extranjero, en la Universidad de Utah y en la Universidad Northwestern de Chicago. Jos\u00e9 Luis es pionero en M\u00e9xico en el estudio del sistema nervioso utilizando el nematodo Caenorhabditis elegans <\/em>como modelo. Fuera del laboratorio, le gusta estar con la familia y las actividades al aire libre, como acampar y montar en bicicleta de monta\u00f1a, y es un amante del caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kitzia G\u00f3mez Cepeda<\/strong>, MSc<\/strong>. (Biochemical Engineer, MSc. in Biological Sciences, PhD in Biological Sciences Program Student, UAQ; Estudiante de Doctorado en Ciencias Biol\u00f3gicas, Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Quer\u00e9taro)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kitzia is from Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoac\u00e1n. She is starting her second year as a Ph.D. student in the Biological Sciences Program at University of Queretaro (UAQ). Her project in the laboratory focuses on modeling human genes that are associated with neurodevelopmental disorders using the biological model C. elegans<\/em>. In her spare time, Kitzia likes reading, visiting museums, mountain biking and finding the best places to eat her favorite food. She is a Mexican food lover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kitzia es originaria de Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoac\u00e1n. Actualmente es estudiante de segundo a\u00f1o del Doctorado en Ciencias Biol\u00f3gicas de la UAQ. Su proyecto en el laboratorio se centra en el modelado de genes humanos asociados a desordenes del neurodesarrollo utilizando el modelo biol\u00f3gico C. elegans<\/em>. Erandi Abril Salas, MD<\/strong> (MD, PhD Student in PECEM, UNAM; Estudiante de Doctorado Plan de Estudios Combinados En Medicina (PECEM<\/em>), Facultad de Medicina, UNAM)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erandi is originally from Mexico City. She holds a medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at UNAM and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. studies at UNAM. She has participated in research internships in areas such as bioinformatics, biochemistry, cancer, and genetics. Her main academic and professional interests focus on human health, with a particular emphasis on pediatrics. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cooking, and playing the ukulele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erandi es originaria de la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico. Es m\u00e9dica cirujana egresada de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM y actualmente cursa el doctorado como parte del Plan de Estudios Combinados en Medicina (PECEM), UNAM. Ha realizado estancias de investigaci\u00f3n en \u00e1reas como bioinform\u00e1tica, bioqu\u00edmica, c\u00e1ncer y gen\u00e9tica.Sus principales intereses acad\u00e9micos y profesionales se centran en la salud humana, con un enfoque particular en el \u00e1rea de pediatr\u00eda. Valeria is an undergraduate student in her fourth year of the Genomic Sciences Undergraduate Program at UNAM. After studying medicine at the University of Guanajuato, she decided to pursue a degree in Genomic Sciences to better understand the molecular and genetic bases of human diseases. She is passionate about exploring the knowledge that can be gained from a sequenced genome and the therapeutic and diagnostic options that can be found for less studied diseases. In her free time, she really enjoys going to the gym, painting, reading, traveling, spending time with her family, and writing poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valeria es una estudiante cursando su cuarto a\u00f1o de la Licenciatura en Ciencias Gen\u00f3micas (LCG) de la UNAM. Tras estudiar medicina en la Universidad de Guanajuato, Valeria decidi\u00f3 ingresar a la LCG ya que su inter\u00e9s es comprender las bases moleculares y gen\u00e9ticas de las enfermedades. Le apasiona saber de qu\u00e9 manera se puede ir adquiriendo conocimiento a partir de un genoma secuenciado y explorar las opciones terap\u00e9uticas y diagn\u00f3sticas que se les pueden ir dando a enfermedades menos estudiadas. Fuera del laboratorio, ella disfruta mucho ir al gimnasio, pintar, leer, viajar, pasar tiempo con su familia y escribir poes\u00eda.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ariana was born in Tenancingo, Estado de Mexico. She is an undergraduate student in her fourth year of the Genomic Sciences Undergraduate Program at UNAM. She has participated in laboratory internships focusing on molecular biology techniques and data analysis using bioinformatics tools. Her interests lie in human health issues, particularly in understanding molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways related to diseases. In her recreational time, her hobbies include baking and reading literature about Greek mythology and historical novels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aldair is originally from Estado de M\u00e9xico, M\u00e9xico. During his last year of undergraduate studies he focused on the study of chromosomal mutation at the cellular level, so he decided to join the LIIGH to study alteration in DNA from a genomics and molecular point of view. He also aims to contribute to the development of precision health in Mexico for the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases. Outside of the laboratory, he enjoys playing sports such as cycling and table tennis, practicing guitar, listening to music and hanging out with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aldair es originario del Estado de M\u00e9xico. Durante su \u00faltimo a\u00f1o de licenciatura se ha enfocado en el estudio de mutaciones cromos\u00f3micas a nivel celular y decidi\u00f3 unirse al LIIGH para estudiar las alteraciones en el ADN desde una perspectiva de la gen\u00f3mica y la gen\u00e9tica molecular. Tambi\u00e9n tiene el objetivo de contribuir al desarrollo de la salud de precisi\u00f3n en M\u00e9xico para el diagn\u00f3stico y tratamiento de enfermedades raras. Fuera del laboratorio, disfruta hacer deporte como el ciclismo y el tenis de mesa, practicar guitarra, escuchar m\u00fasica y salir con amigos.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Alison was born in Jilotepec, State of M\u00e9xico. She has finished her studies in Genomic Biotechnology at the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Le\u00f3n (UANL) and is currently finishing her thesis. Alison discovered her passion for genetics and molecular biology during her participation in the XXVI National Biology Olympiad. She has focused her undergraduate studies in the areas of bioinformatics and NGS technologies used for the detection and study of rare diseases. Outside of her academic interests, Alison enjoys swimming, listening to music, hanging out with friends, and spending time with her pets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actualmente se encuentra terminando su t\u00e9sis habi\u00e9ndose graduado de la Licenciatura en Biotecnolog\u00eda Gen\u00f3mica en la Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Le\u00f3n (UANL). Alison descubri\u00f3 su pasi\u00f3n por la gen\u00e9tica y la biolog\u00eda molecular a ra\u00edz de su participaci\u00f3n en la XXVI Olimpiada Nacional de Biolog\u00eda. Sof\u00eda is an undergraduate student in Genomic Sciences at ENES Juriquilla, UNAM. Born in Mixquiahuala, Hidalgo, she currently lives in Salamanca, Guanajuato. She has developed experience in microbiology laboratory techniques and downstream analyses using bioinformatics tools. Her primary
research interests lie in Precision Medicine and aging, particularly their connection to transcriptional regulation. In her free time, she enjoys playing chess, indie video games, reading science fiction, and spending time with her cats and loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sofia Gami\u00f1o es estudiante de la Licenciatura en Ciencias Gen\u00f3micas en la ENES Juriquilla, UNAM. Naci\u00f3 en Mixquiahuala, Hidalgo, pero actualmente vive en Salamanca, Guanajuato.
